Popular Fly Fishing Flies

Fly fishing is the hunting of fish using artificial flies as bait. It began 10,000 years ago and has kept up with the advancement of our technology. Nowadays, it is one of the more popular sports that many people love to do. With the evolution of technology, more types of available fly fishing flies are out in the market. They vary according to what is being fished and the conditions of fishing. Although there are loads of different patterns used in fly fishing, the five most popular types are the dry fly, streamer fly, wet fly, nymph, and terrestrial.

The dry fly uses a fake fly that is cast to float on top of the water. If you use this type of fly, you need to dry your fly many times because its goal is to look like a kind of insect that stays on the top surface of the water and entice a fish that will pass by to grab it.

The wet flies, as its name implies, resemble insect types that are under water. These flies can also be made to look like a bigger creature underwater like leeches and crawfish to be able to lure a much bigger fish.

The streamer fly is a kind of wet fly that looks like an injured fish for bait. They are much larger than the other kinds of fishing flies and are generally used to catch predator and larger fish.

The nymphs are like eggs from flies that are laid in the river or lake. These types of fishing flies employ many different forms that are particularly weighted down to stay beneath the water surface. Lazy fish are most commonly the victims of this.

The last one is the terrestrial fly, which can be used either for dry or wet fly fishing flies. They look like an insect desperately trying to fly away from the water or an insect which already died.

Whether you are buying your flies or decide to invest in your very own fly fishing kits and materials, these five types of flies are the ones you should concentrate on acquiring when stocking your kit.
